Alligator and their relatives have been around for a very long time. The largest was Deinosuchus. This 40-foot alligatoroid lived in coastal habitats all over North America around 70 million years ago.
Alligators have one of the most powerful bites of any living animal. They can exert around 2960 pounds of force with each bite!
They have quite an appetite too. Juvenile alligators are capable of eating about 23 percent of their body weight in ONE sitting. That’s the same as an 80kg person eating over 18kg of steak in one go!
